Mormon Church?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has been called by many names, most notably they have been called Mormon. This nickname comes from The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Many around the world recognize the name Mormon, without realizing that this is not the name of the church. This church has several nicknames such as Mormon, LDS, and Saints.

President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Russell M. Nelson, requested that people use its proper name when speaking of The Church. He pointed out that calling members Mormon removes the most important aspect, Christ. Referring to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints by its myriads of nicknames remove Christ, the most important part of the title.

President Nelson mentions that the long name was not chosen by man but by Christ for His church. To be respectful, he insists that members and others refer to the church by its full name. Though, he says, after at least the first detailing of The Church Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, people may shorten the name to The Church, or The Church of Christ. Just remember not to remove Christ from the title of the Church.

President Nelson reminded members that though Mormon was a great prophet, they do not worship him. They worship Christ and need to remember Him. Since the common nicknames take Christ out of the title, people do not realize that Christ is the most important part of the church. His name needs to remain prominent. As per request I will continue to refer to The church as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
